CAUSE AND EFFECT REACHES OUT TO FACEBOOK - POSTED 19.08.10
Facebook is the social networking website which was launched in February 2004 and attracts more than 500 million active users as of July 2010. Users can add people as friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organised by workplace, school, or college.
Cause and Effect is set to trial a new promotional campaign by maintaining a presence on the Facebook community profiles. The sophisticated marketing searches users by location, sex, age, keyword, relationship status, job title, workplace, or college. This means that our marketing is directed to the right people who may be considering our services. Currently, this campaign is pointed exclusively to the wedding and bridal sector for both videography and photography.
The project is on a trial basis and is due to commence, for one month, from the 1st September 2010. The scheme initially offers exclusivity for these services within the Nottingham, Derby and Leicester areas, but we have the option to expand nationwide if successful.
Look out for the Cause and Effect advertisement on a Facebook page near you soon.

FIVE GOOD REASONS TO HAVE YOUR WEDDING FILMED - POSTED 23.03.10
CLICK LOGO FOR VIDEO
Cause and Effect provides you with five arguably good reasons why you should consider having your wedding day filmed if you have not already decided on doing so.
1. A professionally made DVD of your wedding day will be one of your most treasured possessions.
I bet if you did not have to stick to a budget you would probably invite more people to your wedding? Well now you can. Invite those who can travel easily to your home to a special screening of your wedding day film. They will be very flattered for being chosen and you get to watch your DVD again in the presence of friends. If your friends live too far or live abroad, buy an extra copy and send it to them.
2. Our grand parents, aunties and uncles are getting older like the rest of us.
Unfortunately, they will not be with us forever. We have all watched family wedding films and noticed that some friends and relatives are no longer with us. How wonderful it would be to be to see your close family chatting, smiling, laughing - on your wedding day and captured in such a memorable moment on your special film, always.
3. A tradition that many married couples adopt is to watch their wedding DVD on the anniversary of their wedding.
Traditions make us what we are as people and celebrating events is a great tradition. Mark your anniversary by watching your wedding DVD either as a couple or with close friends and family.
4. You may have a family one day.
Children always ask questions. When they ask you about your wedding day you would be able to show them the ceremony the speeches, the dancing as though they were there. It would be great for them to look at their parents big day as you probably did of your parents day - albeit in silent cine film, yet still as precious.
Last but definitely not least.
5. Your wedding day will be one of the most important days of your life.
What sweet memories you will have. But how would it be if you could relive your day? Over the years you will most definately begin to forget certain details of that day. Well, you can relive the moments in brilliant quality if you have your wedding filmed to DVD.
Contact Cause and Effect via the link below to enquire further on wedding packages and to view a wedding demostrational DVD sent directly to your home.

TOP TEN MOTHER'S DAY MOVIES - POSTED 07.03.10
If you're running out of ideas on what kind of special activity you can plan to do this year, why not consider these top ten Mother's Day movies to watch with your mum? Don’t forget the popcorn and the tissues; these ten movies are guaranteed to make you laugh and cry, and occasionally do both at the same time!
Girl With A Pearl Earring
Scarlett Johansson is the humble servant girl in 17th century Holland whose beauty inspires Dutch master Johannes Vermeer (Colin Firth) to create one of his most famous paintings. Based on the bestselling novel by Tracy Chevalier, the stunning result is an intense, beautifully photographed drama that evokes a heady atmosphere of forbidden desire with the barest minimum of dialogue. If your mum liked Pride & Prejudice, she'll love seeing Firth back in period garb.

Chocolat
Juliette Binoche is asking for trouble when she opens a chocolate shop in a conservative provincial town. Soon the forces of self-righteous morality, represented by Alfred Molina's uptight mayor, are conspiring against her... A charming confection from director Lasse Hallstrom, let down a little by the 'Allo 'Allo-style accents (hang your head in shame, Dame Judi Dench) and Johnny Depp's bizarre performance as a guitar-strumming gypsy. Nevermind all that, though, your mum'll love it.

Steel Magnolias
An all-star female cast - Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah and Shirley MacLaine, plus Julia Roberts in one of her earliest screen roles - make this a delightful women's picture that's sure to send Mum to bed with a huge smile on her face. There'll be a few tears too, though, as the patrons of a beauty salon in small-town Louisiana come to terms with men, marriage and the menopause.

Gone With The Wind
"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!" But your mum will if you rent her this evergreen Hollywood classic, still spectacular after all these years. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh are perfectly matched as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara, the squabbling lovers whose ill-starred romance takes place against the bloody mayhem of the American Civil War and its aftermath. Got an appetite for vintage drama? With this David O Selznick epic you'll never go hungry again.

Amelie
Charming, heart-warming and utterly romantic, only the hardest of hearts could possibly dislike this French comedy starring the be-dimpled Audrey Tautou. The story involves a young girl whose self-appointed mission in life is to brighten up the lives of those around her. There's plenty of gentle humour in her mischievous and ever so quirky adventures, but the real treat is in seeing her draw slowly closer to the man she distantly admires. A visually beautiful film, and a sure-fire hit with your mum.

Calendar Girls
Helen Mirren, Julie Walters and Celia Imrie are among the Yorkshire housewives who strip off for charity in Nigel Cole's delightful Full Monty-style comedy. Based on the true story of the Women's Institute members whose unusual fundraising activities became an international phenomenon, it's a rich and moving yarn filled with bracing one-liners and quirky, character-based comedy. Yet more evidence of the astonishing strength in depth of female acting talent we have in this country.

Terms Of Endearment
Shirley MacLaine again, this time playing a formidable mother who can't stop interfering in daughter Debra Winger's life. Jeff Daniels, John Lithgow and Danny DeVito are also in the cast, but the real scene-stealer is Jack Nicholson, on Oscar-winning form as the retired astronaut who takes a shine to MacLaine's character. A five-star weepie that should come with its own box of Kleenex.

Sleepless In Seattle
The second of Meg Ryan's three pairings with Tom Hanks is a superior rom-com that cannily keeps widower Hanks and lovelorn reporter Ryan apart for almost the entire film. It's a daring gambit that pays off in spades for director Nora Ephron, who deftly combines dry wit with heartfelt scenes of unexpected emotion - notably Hanks's tearful eulogy to his dead wife on a late-night phone-in.

Casablanca
"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine!" Bogie and Bergman still set the screen alight as the estranged lovers reunited in WWII Morocco in a classic that only gets better with age. The problems of three little people may not amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world, but it'll only take a few bars of As Time Goes By to get those memories flooding back. Here's looking at you, Mum.

Brief Encounter
A doctor. A wife. A train station at night. Romances don't come simpler or more evocative than this David Lean masterpiece about a pair of married strangers whose forbidden love is doomed by the morals of their age and their own guilty consciences. It's great while it lasts, though, with Noel Coward supplying a pitch-perfect script and Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson hiding vast reservoirs of unexpressed passion behind their stiff upper lips.

TRANSFER HOME FILM & VIDEO FOR XMAS - POSTED 24.11.09
When you actually think about it, we all most probably have hours of memories stored on cassettes, or perhaps on cine film, of personal family moments of years gone by. Include slides and photographs, and it soon becomes evident that just about each and every one of us owns hundreds of individual images and short film clips of holidays, partys, days out, kids growing up and other special events.
The unfortunate truth is that for most, these precious keep sakes of the past are simply stored away in an atic or cupboard - never to see the light of day for years! As technology changes with the times, the older recording media becomes obsolete and we eventually find that we can no longer view the images that easily anymore. By transfering them direct to a DVD, you are not only preserving them, but you are able to access them far more directly than ever before. Through the interactive menus, it is possible to jump to any point in time or event by simply clicking to it. Images are preserved without the risk of further damaging the originals through repeated play.
Not only is this a worthwhile exercise for your own personal benefit, but the idea makes great presents for other family members. A one-off encoding fee is required to produce the original master DVD, which comes complete with colour printed sleeves and boxed. Further copies are charged at a nominal fee for additional family members and friends, making the whole process affordable as well as providing a great gift idea. We are currently processing orders ready for Christmas. There is also a promotional £10.00 discount to each order placed before the New Year, making the service even more attractive. Please remember to have submitted your order by 13th December 2009 as the cut-off for Christmas deliveries!
ONE MILLION POINTS OF LIGHT - POSTED 07.10.09
One Million Points of Light was launched by British artist Andrew Pepper in February 2006. Cause & Effect took part in the project early this month and our ‘mark’ can be seen as a green diamond shape immediately right of the centre word LUMIA.
It's aim is to produce a collaborative work which can be seen globally, anywhere there is an Internet connection and computer. This might include your home, a gallery, library, restaurant or public space. One Million Points Of Light is currently being seen in 115 countries!
The concept is simple - you, the visitor to this site, are invited to "switch on" a block of 'Internet' light on the project's home page and position this anywhere within a screen made up of one million points. Over the following four years the screen will fill as more and more blocks are illuminated. Eventually the finished image will have been 'drawn' by many individuals from hundreds of locations around the world.
Each time someone clicks on a block of light their click is recorded. By placing your cursor over any of the blocks you can not only read the message it contains but also view how many people have visited the associated web site. A Top Ten list also tracks the most active blocks of light. Become one of the people who shapes this developing global image.
Once all the blocks of light are illuminated a three-dimensional holographic image will be made of the One Million Points Of Light Project resulting in a sculptural installation made entirely of light! You can visit the site at www.onemillionpointsoflight.com
NEW ADDRESS FOR CAUSE & EFFECT - POSTED 16.07.09
As from Monday 20th July 2009, the new official postal address for Cause and Effect shall be:
PO Box 7806
Heanor
Derbyshire
DE75 9BB
The change comes to bring in-line a more efficient service to our customers by having mail and correspondence managed in this way via the Royal Mail. Over the last 12 months, less and less work has been processed at the old location of 8 years, and instead, work has been re-directed to new premises in the local area.
With the large number of parcels and business post arriving on a weekly basis, it was considered a wise move to have the mail sent direct to a sorting office in Ilkeston. You can still contact Cause and Effect in much the same way as before. Email and telephone remain unchanged, as of course does the website. Mail can still be received at the new postal address.
The hand over is still at its transitional period at the moment, so it is advised that confirmation is made prior to posting items during the next 14 days. This is to ensure that the PO Box is operating correctly before all mail is directed to it. Certainly by early August, no mail addressed to the old location for Cause and Effect will be accepted there, and the new address will be in full operation.
THE MOVE TO BLU-RAY - POSTED 28.06.09
Blu-ray and HD DVD discs are rival formats of special high-capacity DVDs. They use a different compression method to normal DVDs to cram far more data onto each disc than you would find on a normal DVD. This means that you can, for example, store films in a HDTV (High Definition Televison) format which requires a great deal more information.
Unfortunately this special format means that they cannot be played on a normal DVD player and you must have a special Blu-ray or HD DVD player to be able to watch these discs. For example, a Blu-ray disc can only be played on a Blu-ray player (or a Sony Playstation 3), and a HD DVD disc can only be played on a HD DVD player. The two formats are sadly not compatible with each other.
Until recently, the two rival formats had been fighting to be the successor to DVD. The great news for consumers is that Blu-ray has emerged as the dominant format, conceding victory to the rival High Definition DVD consortium. Blu-Ray is an optical disc format which can hold up to 50GB of data, which is around six times the capacity of standard DVD's and 40 times the amount of data that a CD can hold. The extra storage capacity of Blu-ray allows films to be stored at a much higher resolution which in turn produces a picture of unparalleled sharpness and clarity - a truly awe inspiring experience.
Although the technology is similar to CDs and DVDs, the fundamental difference with Blu-Ray is the laser that is used to read the discs. A blue laser is used instead of the usual red laser. Blu-ray has a shorter wavelength than red lasers and therefore the beam can be focused on a smaller area which in short means you can fit more data on an identically sized disc. Blu-Ray discs are not readable on standard CD and DVD players. Many Blu-Ray disc drives, however, will be backwards-compatible to enable playback of the older disc formats.
Even if you don't require a Blu-ray disc, and want standard DVD's -
BBC SCHOOL REPORT - POSTED 12.04.09 - CLICK LOGO FOR VIDEO
BBC News School Report gives 11-14 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience. Using lesson plans and materials from this website, and with support from BBC staff, teachers help students develop their journalistic skills to become School Reporters.
In March, schools take part in an annual News Day, simultaneously creating video, audio and text-based news reports, and publishing them on a school website, to which the BBC aims to link. BBC News presenter and former teacher, Huw Edwards, is working on School Report.
He said: "Over the years I've run many journalism workshops in schools. So I've seen how much fun it can be and how much can be learnt when there are real deadlines, real audiences and real standards to meet".
Cause and Effect was approached by Arnold Hill School in Nottinghamshire to assist them with the project. It was an opportunity to educate pupils in the area of structuring programmes and then progressing them to filming, and later editing.
Dave Bore of Cause and Effect said: "Everyone became involved so much and it was great to know the students were enjoying themselves as they learned".

Cause and Effect are offering a mothers day gift by offering to transfer her special home movie memories of you (or other family members) onto DVD for her to relive as if it were yesterday. These tapes and cine film reels have probably been stored up in the actic gathering dust, and have not seen the light of day for years! Just imagine her face when she gets to look at these precious moments again on digital media, after all this time.
Remember, Mothering Sunday is this weekend, the 22nd March 2009 - so get your order in quickly to enable us to transfer the footage for you. Alternatively, if time is a factor, why not ask for a gift voucher from us for your mum to use whenever she likes. She can then order after Mothers Day and receive the finished DVD approximately one week later (based on approximate work flow and UK destinations).
Do something extra special this Mothering Sunday - give your mum back those special memories on DVD.
